This morning I was struggling to find where to read and so my initial reaction was to pray about it. So, I did, and I felt God calling me to read Proverbs today. I read about Wisdom, So I hope you enjoy the word Gods given me today and I pray it speaks to you too as it did me and you apply it to your daily life.
"The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools - despise wisdom and instruction." - Proverbs 1:7 NIV
Do you know what true knowledge or wisdom requires?
It requires a basic mind-set that affects every aspect of life. This mind-set is characterized by an eager desire to learn from God, from experience, and from others.
The Foundation of true knowledge is
to fear the Lord
to revere, honor and respect him
to live in awe of his power
to obey his word
Examples of this
- How can we fear the lord? we can fear the Lord by revere, honor and respect him
- How can we live in awe of his power? By worshiping him, whether it's at church or in your home or anywhere really, we can still praise him.
- How can we obey his word? We can obey God's word by filling our heart with his word daily so that we can hear what gods speaking to us. We can also do this by avoiding sin and practicing Gods word. Another thing I think is important is by not just avoiding sin but also by obeying his commands when he speaks to us.
By fearing the Lord, revering, honoring and respecting him, living in awe of his power and obeying his word we can see our identity, attitudes, actions and future change. In this scripture it says, "fools despise wisdom and instruction". An example of a fool would be a know-it-all, who is someone who's is closed off to anything new, resents discipline, and refuses to learn. To avoid being a fool we can be open to advice of others, especially those who know you well and can give you valuable insight and counsel. Discover what others have to teach you; learn how to learn from others and most importantly remember only God knows it all. I know it may look easy on paper but attaining wisdom can take time and patience and being open to God. Sometimes I know even I can fall short of attaining true knowledge by not obeying his word or for being closed off. But don't worry you're not alone, were human and we make mistakes, and we can't do it all ourselves which is why we don't have to choose to do it alone, God is always with us and if you are open to him, it won't seem as hard to acquire this wisdom. So today I encourage you to just take one baby step even if it's just little, whether it's by praising him or giving him thanks.
