Don't give God your leftovers

Hey guys! Today while I was reading Proverbs, I went over something cool that just reminded me about tithing and why it's important, so I'd like to elaborate on it and show you what I read.

" Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the first fruits of all your crops; then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine" - Proverbs 3:9 and 1NIV

So, what are these verses referring to when we read them? well they refer to the practice of giving for God's use the first and best portion of harvest. Many people give God their leftovers. Sometimes when we get a load of money or our paycheck and can afford it, we like to donate our money after all the bills are paid or when are wants are met. when we give God the first part of our income, we need to always remember that he has first place in our lives and that our resources belong to him. If you really think of it, we are only Gods managers of his recourses.

What is tithe? Tithe is the tenth part of a personal income set apart as an offering to God or for works of mercy. Just think of this when we give our tithe, its only one tenth, just one tenth of your paycheck. So why can't you give that one tenth up first? God gave you that money ultimately in the first place, he gives to you first we should be doing the same. Stop giving God your leftovers. When you give God your first portion, he will bless you with overflow. When we just give him our best and give to him first you will see him give you that back and sometimes even give you an overflowing amount. Like it says in that verse " your barns with be filled with overflowing." I truly believe he will overfloweth our cups when we do that.

Giving to God first helps us

  • Conquer greed

  • Prioritizes our role in contributing to God's kingdom work in the world

  • Opens us up to receive the special blessings he promises to those who put him and his purposes above all else

I myself don't have a job or make an income but when I do, I can't wait to see God overfloweth my cup when I give him my first serve. One thing I've noticed is when you do this you will see that it is such a blessing to give it to God and see what he does with it and how he provides and gives you surplus of what you had. So today I encourage you to give him your income first before you start spending it, ultimately you will see the blessing in the long run.
